The Wedding Dress Came Home

The Wedding Dress Came Home

Tonight I picked up my wedding dress and veil from David’s Bridal. The assistant at the front desk remembered who I was (well, she didn’t exactly remember my name, but she did remember how there had been a small snafu at my first visit, and that I was in their system twice). When she pulled up my account, she had written a note to remind herself which of the two accounts was the correct one, which was great customer service! She said that unfortunately they didn’t have anyone available to help me do a fitting tonight, but I told her I hadn’t expected to do it tonight anyway. The email letting me know my dress had arrived said I would schedule the fitting and alteration appointment when I came in to pick up the dress, so that’s what I...

The Wedding Dress

The Wedding Dress

Preface: This post is long and significantly lacking in imagery because Dave is not allowed to see the dress before the day of. Sorry! My maid of honor, Allison, was ready to start booking wedding dress appointments for me the week after I got engaged (which was 16 months before the wedding)! But I didn’t want to jump into that process until about a year beforehand – I figured that would give me plenty of time to find a dress (even if it took me a lot of stores and appointments) and get it fitted, with time to spare. I don’t like last minute planning, so my goal is to have everything settled at LEAST a month in advance, if not sooner. Considering I’ve never bought a wedding dress (and had never even been IN a wedding dress shop), I tried to...

Save the Date

Save the Date

With David and I both being graphic designers, it’s not a shocker to know that we have/are designing our own Save the Dates and Invitations. For the longest time we didn’t really know what “theme” our wedding was going to take – and to be honest, I don’t think the actual event will be reflective of a single theme or color scheme (even though we HAVE picked out colors). When the event was going to be formal, we were keeping our eye out at different fabric stores, looking for that “perfect” pattern that we could then turn into table runners, and use as the starting point for decorating everything else. At one point, we both ended up over at the Rochester Art Supply store, which is right around the corner from where we...

Of Cakes and Cupcakes

Of Cakes and Cupcakes

From the moment we started planning our wedding, I knew I had to have a cupcake display. For everyone who knows me, this comes as no surprise – I LOVE cupcakes! However, just going completely cupcake was a difficult concept for us to get our heads around. No cake at all to serve to the guests traditionally? What do we “cut” for tradition? Or do we even CARE about that tradition? Thankfully, neither of us felt particularly compelled to save a piece of cake to eat on our one year anniversary (one year old cake?! I’d rather just buy a new one!) At one point we had pretty much decided on offering a mini cupcake display to appease me (yay), having a small decorative cake to serve to the bridal party, and then Wegmans sheet cakes for our...

Buying a House Changes Everything

Buying a House Changes Everything

So, we own a house! It’s pretty crazy to wake up and realize you own the four walls you’re sleeping in… but it’s an awesome feeling, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. As I said in my last post, buying this house has really put some things into perspective for us, and that included the amount we were about to spend on the wedding. Now obviously, we want the wedding to be a great experience, but that doesn’t have to mean super expensive. And frankly, an over the top fancy night just isn’t US. We’re pretty simple, down to earth people! So most significantly, we have decided on a venue change for both the ceremony and reception. The ceremony we are now planning to hold in our own backyard! At first, I was hesitant...
