The Wedding Dress Came Home

The Wedding Dress Came Home

Tonight I picked up my wedding dress and veil from David’s Bridal. The assistant at the front desk remembered who I was (well, she didn’t exactly remember my name, but she did remember how there had been a small snafu at my first visit, and that I was in their system twice). When she pulled up my account, she had written a note to remind herself which of the two accounts was the correct one, which was great customer service! She said that unfortunately they didn’t have anyone available to help me do a fitting tonight, but I told her I hadn’t expected to do it tonight anyway. The email letting me know my dress had arrived said I would schedule the fitting and alteration appointment when I came in to pick up the dress, so that’s what I was prepared to do. She seemed relieved that I wasn’t trying to waltz in without an appointment (do people really do that? It seems really inconsiderate…) and have everyone bend over backwards for me.

She called back to the fitting and alteration department, and had them bring my dress and veil up. They let me glance over both items to make sure they were the style and color that I ordered (they were), and then I signed off that I had “taken delivery” of them (my words, not theirs). Then they took me back to the fitting department proper to speak with one seamstresses to schedule my fitting and alterations. She said they schedule fittings and alterations about 6 weeks before the wedding, but I told her I didn’t quite feel comfortable “cutting it that close”. I also let her know that my consultant hadn’t been 100% sure that the dress size I ordered would be correct (as I said before, the stock dress might have been stretched after being tried on a lot). So instead, she scheduled me for three months out, June 9th, 2012 at 10:00am and assured me that I would have plenty of time to reorder if necessary, PLUS make any alterations that I wanted.

I can’t say I’m 100% happy about having to wait that long to do my first fitting… but nothing says I can’t try the dress on at home to make sure we’re in the general ballpark!

I swear I’m only going to put it on at home ONCE before the real fitting. I swear…

Dave had driven me to David’s Bridal, so I gave him the okay that the dress was hidden in the bag (you can’t see through it), and he pulled the car as close to the front of the store as possible, so I didn’t have to carry the dress through the rain. I tucked it into the backseat of the car, and then we brought it safely home! It’s now in the closet of our third bedroom. I’m going to print up a sign at work tomorrow to hang on the door that says “No Boys Allowed!” to remind him that he promised to stay out of that closet!!

Here she is, tucked away in her home for the next 11 months.
