Wedding Dress Alterations

Wedding Dress Alterations

I just realized I never made a post about this! So the information is dated by a few weeks, but relevant nonetheless. After I purchased my wedding dress from David’s Bridal, they were quick to sign me up for an alterations appointment. As my date and time approached, I started doing some searching around the internet of what to be prepared for. Were there things I needed to bring? A specific way I should dress? Should I have my hair done? etc. I found a few wonderful sites that explained the things you should be prepared for (bring your ACTUAL wedding shoes if you have them, different types of questions to ask, and the most common alteration types), but I also found a few sites where women were lamenting about their poor alteration results from none other...

Bridal Party Pampering and Brunch

Bridal Party Pampering and Brunch

We’ve roughly decided that our ceremony will begin at 4pm, which gives me plenty of time to get ready without being in a rush on the “morning of”. The downside is I know I’ll be up at 6am, ready to throw my dress on and get things underway! I’m also generally a worrier about being “on time” for things – I hate HATE hate to be late to ANYTHING, to the extent that I would rather be an hour early than a minute late. So, I’m trying to prepare myself to not be in the rushrushrush mind set on the morning-of. For me, personally, that means having a plan for the morning’s activities that walks a fine line between having enough things to do to keep my mind off of the time, and not being so jam packed that a time...

Bridesmaid Dresses

Bridesmaid Dresses

Last weekend my bridesmaids and I had an appointment at David’s Bridal to select their bridesmaid dress. Originally, I wanted to just ask them to find a dress in chocolate brown to wear – that way, everyone could find something they felt comfortable in, and something that they would wear in the future. That idea was turned on it’s head when Dave mentioned that if the girls were all in a different shade of brown, it would drive him nuts (we’re both graphic designers, so I understand the nature of the statement). The easiest way to make sure everyone was in the same shade of brown would be to choose a specific dress color from a big box store like David’s Bridal. Plus, it didn’t hurt that as a “David’s Bridal...

The Formal Wear

The Formal Wear

Last night, David and I had his first appointment at Men’s Wearhouse. We had browsed their website online together, and checked out a few of the suit/tuxedo offerings, but couldn’t really get an idea for what we liked without going into the store. To be honest, we didn’t really know what to expect from the appointment. We thought we might just be browsing the racks looking at different styles of jackets, colors, fabrics, etc. Maybe there would be a second appointment to try on our selected styles, and make a final decision then. Boy, were we wrong! We met with Asha, at the Men’s Wearhouse at Eastview Mall, where Dave had gone previously to be measured for other weddings. She was extremely helpful, and I would highly recommend her...

It’s the Little Things

It’s the Little Things

In my last post, I wanted to tell everyone what a great deal I got on my shoes. Besides the fact that I love getting a good deal, I also did it because it’s justification for my latest purchase. While browsing other peoples wedding photo galleries online, I saw quite a few of them had purchased (or been given) a special hanger to hang their wedding dress from. It makes for great photos, and is just a unique little item that (I think) will help make the day feel that much more personalized. So in the same eBay “shopping trip” that I found my shoes, I found a seller who was making personalized hangers, for a fraction of the cost that I had seen elsewhere (read: I got it for $15.00, free shipping). I got to choose what it would say, and I went with...

The Shoes Make the (wo)Man

The Shoes Make the (wo)Man

No, these gold sneakers are not my wedding shoes As pretty as some shoes are, there was absolutely no way I was buying/wearing fancy heels for the wedding. I never wear them in my daily life, and only sporadically for special occasions. My feet have never adjusted to them, and I don’t understand the point of being uncomfortable just to look stylish. I warned Dave not to expect me in heels at either the reception OR ceremony. I thought he might not be happy about that; sometimes I bring up suggestions that would “casualize” the wedding more than it should be/already is, and he has to remind me that we (and our guests) want to make this a memorable day. However, to my great relief, he completely understood. It was one of those moments that...
