Reception Table Arrangement

Reception Table Arrangement

So in a weird twist of fate, the owners of our reception site, Lovin’ Cup, are in the midst of planning their own wedding, too! It has actually proven to be a big help for us, in that Leslie (who we are primarily working with) has been able to bring up aspects of the reception that we had not previously thought about. During our last meeting with her, we started discussing the table arrangements and decorations: Did we want to have our dinner set up inside or outside? We all agreed that as long as the weather was permitting, we definitely wanted to set up outside. During the summer months, Lovin’ Cup strings bistro style lights up across the patio, and we both really love the fresh air from dining outside. It did dawn on me that I’m going to...

Rose Petals Done Two Ways

Rose Petals Done Two Ways

Now that we finally seem to have a grasp on all of the big things (photography is super close to being settled on, venue is lined up, dinner is planned out, dress is purchased, etc), my brain was able to think about the small little details that would make me happy. Most significantly I am trying to add little touches to the ceremony, because although it is going to be short, I still want it to be memorable for us. One day I started thinking about rose petals to scatter down the aisle. We’re not going to have a flower girl, but I still really like the thought of having them sprinkled very lightly down the path for me. Then I figured, if I got enough of them, I could use them as part of the centerpieces at the reception (more on the centerpieces in a later...

Buying a House Changes Everything

Buying a House Changes Everything

So, we own a house! It’s pretty crazy to wake up and realize you own the four walls you’re sleeping in… but it’s an awesome feeling, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. As I said in my last post, buying this house has really put some things into perspective for us, and that included the amount we were about to spend on the wedding. Now obviously, we want the wedding to be a great experience, but that doesn’t have to mean super expensive. And frankly, an over the top fancy night just isn’t US. We’re pretty simple, down to earth people! So most significantly, we have decided on a venue change for both the ceremony and reception. The ceremony we are now planning to hold in our own backyard! At first, I was hesitant...

Where Are The Updates?

You might be asking this yourself… why haven’t we made any updates for over a month?! Well, for those of you out there that HAVEN’T heard, David and I are in the process of purchasing our first home! It’s an adorable Tudor style home in West Irondequoit, with three bedrooms and 1.5 baths. We are a few weeks (or less) from signing our closing papers, and after that, we should be back to making updates. One major thing to note, however, is that this house has really put some things into perspective for us. Our house is a lot more important to us (and a much better investment) than a 6 hour party. So we’ve made some general adjustments to the overall scale of the wedding ceremony and reception. We’re very happy with the new road...

Venue Tour – Max at High Falls

Venue Tour – Max at High Falls

Wow! It’s been an amazing last few weeks touring all of these venues… but our search is at an end! I’m so nervous to even write about it (what if something falls through?!), but here goes anyway! Please note that nothing is set in stone… but we have really fallen in love with this place. Today Dave and I toured Max at High Falls. The venue is right next to High Falls (with a whole set of windows that looks out over it), right near/in downtown. We already live in the same general area, and know the feel is very much “us”, so we were already excited to take a look at the space. We’ve both seen the outside of the building throughout the years, but it’s been the home to a few different businesses, including several night...

Venue Tour – Belhurst Castle

Venue Tour – Belhurst Castle

Last stop of the day was Belhurst Castle, on Seneca Lake. We’ve driven by here a number of times on our way to Watkins Glen, and the sister of a friend of ours had her wedding here, and loved it. I’m going to make this post brief, because I know it’s just not right for me. The place is beautiful, and I would love to come out and have a nice dinner here sometime – but the vibe of the interior and of the different reception halls just wasn’t me. I knew very quickly that it wasn’t the right place. But here are the pictures I took anyway!
